How long has it taken you to get over a divorce in the family?

If your parents have gotten divorced this ? is for you!

My parents are in the middle of a divorce and they have been since January. I would really appreciate if you told me how long it took you to get out of the funk of sadness and back into a normal life, because it’s taking me a very long time! thanks!

You don’t get over it in the sense that things will "go back to normal," because it is a big change. It won’t be exactly like it was– it will be different. But in another year or so, things will be BETTER than when there was constant arguing and tears. Trust me it will become comfortable again and even better, but there will be changes. Hang in there!

It takes a good year or so after the divorce and custody are final…

My parents got divorced when I was 11. It didn’t effect me very much then, but when I hit mid-teens, it started to make things more difficult. My parents ended up getting back together, 10 years later, and that was even harder to take.
It really depends on you though. My friends parents just got divorced about 2 years ago, and she’s still a wreck from it.
So can take anywhere from 2 months to 10 years, depends on you! Just remember they are the ones getting divorced, and it’s not your fault!

I am 44 and my parents got divorced 8 years ago. Even though we were old and had children, wives, husbands and divorces of our own, it tore our family apart and I don’t think it will ever get better.
